CIT Meeting
May 04, 2009 — April 28,2009
CIT April 28, 2009
SIP Academy
Meeting called to order at 3:14
Grades
Some teachers were sent to an inservice on grading. The district may be re-evaluating the way that we grade. Grades should reflect actual student learning and progress. Assignments that are to be graded should be meaningful and provide insight into what the student is learning or assess the progress the student is making. Mr. Ruiz will look into bringing in the speaker from this inservice.
The district will provide a SIP (School Improvement Planning) professional development during the summer. Teachers from our campus are encouraged to attend. The district will provide a $25/hour stipend for all teachers who participate in the SIP Academy. The purpose for SIP is to work on four areas of improvement on our campus:
• Data disaggregation
• Comprehensive Needs Assessment
• Campus Planning
• Team Building
The district would like at least half of the faculty to attend the academy to focus on resolving issues and problems that we feel we have on our campus. The ideas and solutions that come from this academy will be implemented for the 2009-2010 school year. The academy is tentatively planned for the last week of July.
The district is asking for two teachers from our campus to be training on how to run a SIP academy on our campus. These two teachers will be responsible for planning and presenting the academy to the faculty. Training will probably be sometime in May. Any teacher interested in attending this training and on being responsible for presenting the SIP Academy, please let Mr. Ruiz know.
Presenters and Professional Development
The district has allocated monies for professional development for our campus. If any teacher has gone to a presentation or training that they feel would be beneficial to our campus, please let Mr. Ruiz know so that he may try to bring that presentation to the campus. Please have specific information, such as the presenters name, how to reach the presenter (email, website, phone number, etc.), and the objectives of the training.
BIC Students
There have been issues with students from the BIC classes running around in the halls and disrupting classes. This issue will be tabled for the summer SIP Academy as discussed previously. In the meantime, there are a few solutions that can be used this year.
• Let the SPED coaches know of the problem as soon as possible. These students are aware that with the proper documentation, their BIP protection can be rescinded. The problem must be documented on the same day, it cannot be documented the next day or a week after. Therefore, it is crucial that the SPED coaches know of the incident the day it occurred, they cannot help if it is not reported promptly. A phone call or email to them as soon as possible will suffice. Do not send the student to them if they are in your class as your student. Classroom management is the duty and responsibility of the teacher, not the SPED coaches or the BIC teacher.
• Referral on the date of the incident. This referral can serve as documentation for the SPED coaches.
• If you are the teacher of record for the student, DO NOT kick them out of your class without a referral. If the student is being extremely disruptive in the class, call for security to pick up the student along with a referral to the proper administrator, just like any other student. The SPED and BIC teachers are having problems with having students sent back to them from their classes, even during their conference periods. The teacher of record has the responsibility for any student assigned during any given class period.
